Why Bless our Heroes
The coronavirus crisis has left the UK struggling more than ever, with our heroic frontline workers fighting tirelessly for the rest of us in a battle that will leave no-one untouched. While they fight, we isolate. But while we may be far apart, by sharing our love, appreciation and hope for our healthcare workers and everyone on the front line, we can let them know and feel that we are actually close at heart.
“The closest thing to being cared for is to care for someone else”
– Carson McCullers
We are privileged in the UK to have free access to our amazing NHS, and the dedicated support of all the other services that keep our country running. In these unprecedented times, we at telbee, like many other businesses, were thinking how we could give something back. We thought to use the voice technology we've built to help show our heroes on the front line how much we all care for and support them, and tie this into a fundraising campaign so that words spoken could be translated into much needed funding to make a difference.
Your Voice Matters
At #BlessOurHeroes you can record and share your voice or other audio messages – “blessings” – to tell your Heroes and everyone else around the world how much you appreciate them, and to help everyone feel better in these dark times. Blessings can be your stories, songs, poems, jokes or many other ideas we know you’ll come up with. And there are so many Heroes to all of us - NHS staff, shop workers, postal workers, the police and fire services, teachers, transport workers, family friends...
For each blessing we want you to have your Heroes in your hearts, so that everyone can hear what they mean to you. Our healthcare workers see pain and death every day, and everyone still going out to work is putting themselves at risk. Your uplifting words will show them that we’re all in this together.
We are launching the #BlessOurHeroes fundraising campaign with our own £1,000 Super Pledge, matched by one of our founding partners - London New Tech. We will both donate £1 for each of the first 1,000 blessings recorded on #BlessOurHeroes. Our partners and hopefully many more pledgers to come will also be pledging up to £1 for each blessing you record. These pledges will go to support the National Emergencies Trust (www.nationalemergenciestrust.org.uk), who are raising funds for organisations and local charities who help those most in need through their Coronavirus Appeal.
Your voice will both uplift our heroic frontline workers, and help those who are most struggling in these unprecedented times. Please record and share your blessings to meet our pledge targets and secure donations from our partners. You share, we’ll donate, and together, let’s #BlessOurHeroes.
In Your Thoughts, Prayers and Voices
Let your Heroes who've done so much for you know that you’re here for them. They don’t need the right words, they just need your words. Record a voice message and tell them that they and their loved ones are in your thoughts and prayers.
When this invisible enemy is threatening the people we most care about, they are on the frontlines risking themselves to protect us all. They need our words of gratitude and reassurance to help keep them going.
Leave a blessing of gratitude or joy today. The love they receive will keep them strong as they fight to save lives.
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”
– Leo Buscaglia
Grief Shared Becomes Light
Life has changed at a speed only seen in times of war, and it's safe to say that most of us are struggling to find our footing in this new reality. Sharing this pain makes it less. So tell your story, or that of someone you know who’s in pain, and share the grief with the world. Our voices will show that we’re all in this together.
And we hope through this to lessen the pain of those experiencing firsthand the death, suffering, worry and exhaustion brought on by this horrible disease... every day.
“In times of stress, the best thing we can do for each other is to listen with our ears and our hearts and to be assured that our questions are just as important as our answers.”
– Mr Rogers
Our partners and supporters are pledging donations to the National Emergencies Trust for every blessing we receive. Join with your friends and our shared light will brighten the darkness.
Bless Our Heroes
It’s time to show our brave healthcare workers, volunteers and others on the front line that they are not in this alone. Your blessings will give love, encouragement and hope to these warriors who are sacrificing themselves to save our nations’ weakest in the biggest health crisis we’ve faced for generations.
Get involved. Share your voice. Bless Our Heroes.
Thank you
